Saudi Pipeline Damage Sparks Oil Supply Disruption Fears
Saudi Arabia has canceled some of its crude oil shipments to Europe due to damage to its East-West pipeline following an attack last week. The damage is more extensive than initially estimated, with three pumping stations along the pipeline sustaining significant damage.
Repairing the affected facilities could take several weeks, potentially affecting up to 4% of global oil supply. The kingdom's largest crude oil exporter shut down its East-West pipeline after the attack and is also facing disruptions from Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and ongoing shipping disturbances in the Strait of Hormuz.
The cancellation of some shipments was confirmed by three sources who spoke to Reuters News Agency, with oil buyers and traders believing that Saudi Arabia may be forced to draw down its oil reserves earmarked for export due to the disruption to one of its main export routes.
