Saudi Tankers Alter Course Amid Houthi Threats in Gulf
Six Saudi-flagged supertankers have changed their course in the Gulf of Aden due to threats from Yemen's Houthi movement.
The tankers, which can carry up to two million barrels of crude oil each, were originally headed for southern Africa but will now take a longer route around the Cape of Good Hope.
This decision was likely made in response to the Houthi declaration of a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia on July 20.
The route change is expected to add at least 25 days of sailing time if the tankers opt to cross the Suez Canal back to Saudi ports in the Red Sea.
