Scrap Metal Prices Shift as Copper and Aluminum Decline
Copper scrap prices declined in North America from August 14-20, with #3 Copper-Light Copper falling by $0.01 per pound (1.94%). This downward trend was observed across most grades of copper scrap, including #1 Copper Bare Bright and #2 Copper Wire and Tubing.
Aluminum scrap prices also decreased during this period, with Breakage 50% Recovery being the only gainer. E.C. Aluminum Wire dropped $0.04 per pound (2.72%), while Old Cast fell $0.02 (2.20%).
The price of lead remained largely stable, with no changes observed across major regional markets. Zinc scrap prices moved lower week-over-week, declining by $0.01 per pound for both New and Old Zinc Die Cast.
Ferrous scrap prices are expected to remain within a narrow band in the near term due to balanced supply and demand, according to market analysts. Prime grades like #1 Busheling and #1 Bundle may continue to be resilient, supported by EAF and flat-rolled steel demand.
