Seatrium and Karpowership Partner for Ninth FSRU Conversion Project
Seatrium has secured its ninth floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) conversion project in partnership with Karpowership. The collaboration will focus on the conversion of the LNGT Akdeniz, an LNG carrier, into an FSRU. This project follows the successful delivery of seven previous FSRUs and the ongoing conversion of the LNGT Karadeniz. The work on the LNGT Akdeniz is set to commence in the first quarter of 2027, with Seatrium handling the engineering, conversion, integration, installation, and commissioning of the regasification equipment.
Gokhan Kocak, Chief Technical Operations Officer at Karpowership, highlighted the significance of these projects in strengthening their LNG-to-Power business. He praised Seatrium's consistent delivery of high-quality FSRU conversions, noting their role in supporting operational requirements and long-term growth plans. The LNGT Akdeniz project is the second to materialize under a previously announced letter of intent (LOI) between the two companies, which also includes plans for integrating up to six new-generation Powerships.
Alvin Gan, Executive Vice President of Repairs and Upgrades at Seatrium, emphasized the enduring partnership between the two companies. He noted that the award of the LNGT Akdeniz project reinforces Seatrium's position as a global leader in floating LNG infrastructure solutions. The LNGT Akdeniz will feature a regasification capacity of up to 600 MMscfd, contributing to reliable and flexible energy supply. Seatrium has completed 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects since 2007, while Karpowership operates the world's only Powership fleet, comprising 45 vessels.
