Seatrium Secures Ninth FSRU Conversion Contract with Karpowership for LNGT Akdeniz
Seatrium, a Singapore-based offshore and marine engineering specialist, has secured its ninth contract with Karpowership for converting an LNG carrier into a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU). The latest project involves the transformation of the vessel LNGT Akdeniz, set to bolster Karpowership's expanding LNG operations. Construction activities for the LNGT Akdeniz are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with Seatrium responsible for engineering, conversion, and integration of regasification equipment.
Gokhan Kocak, Chief Technical Operations Officer at Karpowership, highlighted the significance of the LNGT Akdeniz project, noting its role in enhancing LNG import and regasification capacity. He emphasized Seatrium's reliability in producing high-quality FSRU conversions that align with Karpowership's operational needs and long-term expansion objectives. The two companies anticipate further collaboration as global demand for flexible energy infrastructure grows.
The LNGT Akdeniz project follows the completion of seven FSRU deliveries since 2018 and ongoing work on the LNGT Karadeniz. The vessel, with a regasification capacity of up to 600 MMscfd, is expected to contribute to energy security and the supply of cleaner fuel. Seatrium expressed appreciation for Karpowership's continued trust and looks forward to furthering their partnership in providing innovative energy solutions.
Seatrium has completed 22 FSRU and FSU conversion projects since 2007, while Karpowership operates the sole Powership fleet globally, consisting of 45 vessels. Kinetics, Karpowership's energy transition arm, will see its LNG fleet grow to 12 vessels once LNGT Akdeniz is added.
