Seatrium secures ninth Karpowership FSRU conversion project
Seatrium has secured its ninth contract with Karpowership for the conversion of an LNG carrier into a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). The project, involving the LNGT Akdeniz vessel, is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. Once completed, the vessel will join Kinetics, Karpowership’s LNG initiative, and will be capable of regasifying up to 600 million standard cubic feet per day.
Seatrium will oversee the engineering and conversion work, integrating and installing systems associated with the regasification equipment before commissioning them. This latest contract brings Kinetics’ planned fleet to 12 vessels, including both FSRUs and LNG carriers. The project follows the successful delivery of seven FSRUs for Karpowership since 2018, with ongoing work on the eighth vessel, LNGT Karadeniz.
The LNGT Akdeniz project is the second to advance under a letter of intent signed in August 2025. This agreement outlines plans for three FSRU conversions and the potential integration of up to six new-generation floating power plants. The vessel is also the second unit in Karpowership’s new FSRU series, highlighting the company’s ongoing expansion in the LNG sector.
