Selkirk Copper's Minto Mine Estimated Worth Nearly Triples Initial Build Costs
Selkirk Copper's Minto mine in Yukon has been estimated to be worth $494 million, nearly triple its initial build costs of $186 million. The preliminary economic assessment (PEA) by Selkirk gives a post-tax internal rate of return of 47.8% and a relatively low payback period of 1.9 years.
The mine's value is based on metal prices of $5 per lb. copper, US$3,600 per oz. gold, and US$50 per oz. silver, which are below current spot levels. The economics are sensitive to copper prices, according to the report.
Selkirk CEO M. Colin Joudrie said that the positive economics described in the PEA create a platform for the company to pursue a restart decision at the completion of a feasibility study and permit amendment receipt in H2-2027 with targeted first concentrate production by H2-2028.
