Sensex Jumps 301 Points Amid Oil Price Worries and Global Market Volatility
The Indian stock market experienced a moderate rebound on Friday, with the Sensex rising by 301 points. However, despite this gain, the market remains on edge due to several key concerns.
One of the main pressure points is the price of crude oil, which has risen above $105 a barrel for Brent crude. This has led to increased worries about India's import bill and inflation. A sustained rise in oil prices could put pressure on corporate costs, the current account, and the broader inflation outlook.
Global bond yields are another area of concern. Elevated US Treasury yields have made dollar-denominated assets more attractive, while putting pressure on emerging-market equities. Higher yields can also affect equity valuations by increasing the relative cost of capital and reducing the appeal of riskier assets.
Foreign investor flows added to the uncertainty in the market. Foreign institutional investors sold Indian equities worth Rs 5,027.36 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors purchased shares worth Rs 4,301.18 crore. The divergence highlights the importance of domestic institutional buying in cushioning the impact of continued foreign outflows.
