Shaheen Urges Trump to Pressure Xi on Iran Support

US Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen has urged President Donald Trump to press Chinese President Xi Jinping to stop supporting Iran. In a Senate speech, Shaheen highlighted reports that China's firms are helping Tehran economically and militarily.

Citing statistics, Shaheen noted that approximately 90% of Iran's oil exports go to China, providing it with billions of dollars in revenue and serving as a critical economic lifeline for the country.

Shaheen also pointed out that Chinese and Hong Kong companies have supplied components used in Iranian ballistic missiles and drones. She urged Trump to use his leverage with Xi to stop Chinese firms from providing satellite imagery, missile parts, and drone components, as well as access to markets for sanctioned Iranian oil.

In order to bring the war to an end, Shaheen argued that it is essential to cut off external support that allows Iran to continue fighting. According to her, this starts with China.
