Shell Advances LNG Canada Expansion to Double Export Capacity
Shell (SHEL) is advancing its LNG Canada Phase 2 expansion to double the facility's liquefaction capacity, significantly enhancing Shell's LNG export capabilities. This project marks a pivotal development in Shell's integrated gas strategy and aligns with long-term energy transition trends.
The expansion will increase the facility's export capacity from 14 million metric tons per year to 28 million metric tons per year. Shell's 40% stake translates to an incremental 6 million tons per year of LNG exports, positioning the company to capitalize on growing global demand for cleaner-burning natural gas.
Operations are expected to begin in the early 2030s, supporting Canada's goal to become a leading LNG exporter. The project demonstrates Shell's strategic commitment to growing its LNG footprint, which is a key driver for future cash flow and dividend support.
