Shell Expands LNG Canada Capacity Amid Shifting Asian Markets
Shell has made a final investment decision on the second phase of the LNG Canada facility in British Columbia, doubling its capacity to 28 million metric tons per annum.
The expansion includes two additional liquefaction units, or trains, and additional storage and a loading berth at the port of Kitimat. This will double the plant's production capacity and position Canada as a major player in the global LNG market.
TC Energy has announced plans to expand the Coastal GasLink pipeline that feeds the facility, with the second phase expected to double its current capacity of 2.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.
