Shell-led LNG Canada Doubles Export Capacity in Major Expansion

Shell and its partners have approved a major expansion of the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia. The Phase 2 expansion will increase production capacity to 28-million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from 14 mtpa, making it one of the world's largest LNG exporters.

The expansion includes two additional liquefaction trains and is expected to bring nearly 6 mtpa of additional LNG for Shell. Commercial operations are targeted for the early 2030s.

LNG Canada is a joint venture led by Shell, with partners including Malaysia's Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corp, and Korea Gas Corp. It's Canada's first large-scale LNG export terminal and one of the country's largest private-sector investments.
