Shell-Led LNG Canada Nears Final Decision on Phase Two Expansion

LNG Canada is reportedly nearing a final investment decision for its phase two expansion.

The project, located in Kitimat, B.C., would double the terminal's capacity, increasing total export capabilities to up to 28 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The joint venture led by Shell has been working with partners Patronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corp., and Korea Gas Corp. to explore pathways for a possible Phase 2 expansion.

A co-operative investment agreement was reached between the federal and B.C. governments in May 2026, adding the project to the federal government's priority project list in 2025.
