Shimla Jewellers Report Strong Demand Ahead of Wedding Season Despite Elevated Gold Prices
Shimla, Himachal Pradesh - Ahead of the upcoming festive and wedding season, jewellery buyers in Shimla are showing strong interest in new designs, with jewellers reporting a surge in demand despite elevated gold prices. The four-day exhibition at a hotel in Shimla features over 5,000 designs across various categories, including diamond, polki, temple, and silver jewellery.
Akshay Verma of Verma Jewellers said that while rates are relatively stable, customers are increasingly looking for variety, quality, and transparency. He highlighted the importance of lightweight craftsmanship, saying that it is a major concern among buyers who want to find designs that combine quality with transparency.
Verma also mentioned an old-gold exchange programme, which allows customers to exchange their existing jewellery for new pieces. The programme is designed to promote gold recycling and reduce dependence on newly imported gold, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeals. Additionally, the company is offering insurance with jewellery purchases, particularly for expensive items that may be carried during weddings and other occasions.
Harpreet Kaur Senbi, a visitor to the exhibition, praised the variety of designs and craftsmanship on display. She noted that some of the lightweight versions of jewellery appear heavier due to intricate work, making them more affordable options for buyers.
