Shimla Jewellers See Strong Demand for Lightweight Designs Despite High Gold Prices

Despite high gold prices, jewellery buyers in Shimla are showing strong interest in lightweight designs and traditional craftsmanship ahead of the festive and wedding season. The four-day jewellery exhibition at a hotel in Shimla features over 5,000 designs from various categories, including diamond, polki, temple, and silver jewellery.

Akshay Verma of Verma Jewellers said that jewellery prices have remained relatively stable in recent days, but customers are increasingly looking for variety, quality, and transparency. He emphasized the importance of transparency in the industry, stating that customers want to know where they can find the best designs without having to travel outside Himachal Pradesh.

The exhibition also includes an old-gold exchange programme, which allows customers to exchange their existing jewellery for new pieces. Verma highlighted this scheme as a way to reduce dependence on newly imported gold and promote gold recycling in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's earlier appeals.

Harpreet Kaur Senbi, who visited the exhibition, praised the variety of designs and craftsmanship, particularly the lightweight versions that appear heavier due to intricate work. She noted that the collection offers a wide range for customers preparing for weddings and festive occasions.
