Silver prices have taken a significant hit over the past six months, dropping more than 26% according to Investing.com data for XAG/USD. This sharp decline has had a direct impact on silver exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which aim to track the price of the precious metal. Despite the recent downturn, silver has managed to gain 14.38% over the last year as of October 28, 2026.
The correction in silver prices has led to negative returns for all silver ETFs over the past six months. The Zerodha Silver ETF recorded the steepest decline at 21.38%. However, when looking at longer time frames, the performance of silver ETFs paints a more positive picture. For instance, the Tata Silver ETF led the one-year returns at 32.41%, while the ABSL Silver ETF topped the three-year list at 37.97%.
Over a one-year period, the top-performing silver ETFs included the Tata Silver ETF (32.41%), UTI Silver ETF (31.37%), and ABSL Silver ETF (30.65%). For three-year returns, the ABSL Silver ETF led with 37.97%, closely followed by ICICI Prudential Silver ETF at 37.95%. No five-year performance data was available, but the consistent presence of ABSL Silver ETF and ICICI Prudential Silver ETF in both the one-year and three-year lists highlights their strong historical performance.
The recent decline in silver prices serves as a reminder of how volatile commodity-based investments can be. While short-term fluctuations can be dramatic, longer-term returns often tell a different story. Investors should consider these trends when evaluating silver ETFs as part of their investment strategy.
