Silver Investment Options Multiply for Indian Investors
Investors in India have several options for investing in silver beyond physical storage or making charges. One option is digital silver, which allows investors to buy and hold silver without taking physical delivery. However, this comes with potential risks related to transparency, pricing, and investor protection.
Silver ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) or Silver Fund of Funds are another way to invest in silver. These funds track domestic silver prices and can be bought and sold like stocks on exchanges. Investors do not actually store the physical metal but track the silver prices.
The purity of silver is typically expressed in fineness, with 999 fineness meaning 99.9% pure silver content. The most common grades used are fine silver (99.9% pure), sterling silver (92.5% pure), and Britannia silver (95.8% pure). Coin silver contains 90% silver and 10% copper.
The daily silver rate is just a benchmark, with the final showroom price being higher due to making charges and GST. The authenticity of silver can be verified by checking the BIS logo and purity grade.
