Silver Price Collapse Tests Sierra Madre's Production Strategy
Silver prices plummeted by 45% from their peak in January, falling to around $63 per ounce by mid-September. This sharp decline has forced silver producers to adapt to a wider price range and manage costs, production growth, and capital spending.
The underlying supply picture remains tight despite the price drop. Global silver mine production increased 3% in 2025 to 846.6 million ounces, while recycling added another 197.6 million ounces. However, total demand reached 1.13 billion ounces, resulting in a 40.3 million-ounce deficit.
Sierra Madre Gold & Silver Ltd., an operating producer, is facing the challenges of managing growth in a fluctuating commodity price environment. The company has already generated revenue from its La Guitarra mine and plans to increase processing capacity through two expansion phases.
