Silver Prices Soar on Renewed US-Iran Diplomacy Hopes
Silver prices surged more than 2% on Wednesday, pushing XAG/USD toward the $60 mark, as renewed diplomatic signals between the United States and Iran dampened safe-haven demand for the dollar and boosted appetite for precious metals.
The primary catalyst for silver's sharp ascent was the emergence of fresh diplomatic overtures between Washington and Tehran. Reports on Wednesday indicated that both sides had signaled willingness to re-enter negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, a development that market participants interpreted as reducing the risk of a broader Middle Eastern conflict.
Silver, which is both a precious metal and an industrial metal, benefited from a dual tailwind: a weaker dollar made it cheaper for foreign buyers, while optimism about reduced geopolitical uncertainty supported industrial demand expectations. The metal's price action also tracked gold, which posted gains of over 1% during the same session.
The rally occurred against a backdrop of mixed US economic data. While manufacturing activity showed signs of stabilization, labor market figures remained resilient, giving the Federal Reserve room to maintain its current interest rate stance.
