Silver Prices Soar to $70 Amid Treasury Buyback Boost
Silver prices surged to $70 an ounce on August 21, marking a one-fifth increase in value during the month. The rally was fueled by the US Treasury's decision to double its long-bond buyback program, which strengthened demand for precious metals.
The spot price of silver reached $70 before pulling back marginally, surpassing several institutions' average annual projections. However, it remains below many of their more optimistic end-of-year estimates.
Silver-linked equities outpaced the commodity itself, with top producers such as Hecla Mining and Wheaton Precious Metals seeing significant gains. The Global X Silver Miners ETF climbed 35%, while the ETFMG Prime Junior Silver Miners ETF gained 32%.
