Silver Prices Spark Renewed Interest in Historic Cobalt Mining District
The surge in silver prices has led to renewed interest in the historic Cobalt mining district of northeastern Ontario, where companies like Kuya Silver and Brixton Metals are exploring old mine waste for hidden treasure. According to Kuya, there's significant silver mineralization on its 13,000-hectare property at the Silver Kings project, with some results showing up to 168 grams per tonne silver and 0.365% cobalt.
Kuya is sampling and metallurgical testing the crushed material at the site of the former Kerr Lake mill, where the highest grades were found. The company's president-CEO David Stein said they're taking a methodical and low-cost approach to evaluating this potentially large above-ground source of metals available at the Silver Kings project.
Meanwhile, Brixton Metals has been consistently pulling high-grade silver results from its drilling program at the shuttered Langis mine. The company reported that every hole drilled showed silver mineralization, with one stand-out drill hole popping 6,199 grams per tonne (g/t) of silver over a one-metre length of core.
