Silver Purity Matters: What You Need to Know Before Buying

Silver purity is crucial for consumers to understand when purchasing silver products. The purity of silver is expressed in fineness, indicating the percentage of pure silver in an alloy. For instance, 999 fineness means 999 parts out of 1000 are pure silver.

Fine silver contains 99.9% silver content with minimal impurities and is the purest form available to consumers. Sterling silver, on the other hand, contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, commonly copper. This grade is widely used in jewellery and household items.

The daily silver rate online serves as a benchmark, but the final showroom price will be higher due to making charges (varies by design) and a 3% GST. Authenticity can be verified through BIS hallmarking, which includes the purity grade and HUID code for certain products.
