Silver prices surged nearly $3, or 5.50%, on Wednesday as traders reacted to the results of the US midterm elections, which saw a Democratic sweep aimed at countering President Donald Trump. At the time of writing, XAG/USD is trading at $52.39, having rebounded from daily lows of $48.96.

From a technical standpoint, silver remains in a bearish trend, though the Relative Strength Index (RSI) has shown a notable recovery, approaching the 50 neutral level. Despite this improvement, the RSI remains bearish. The silver spot price is still below the key resistance area formed by the 50- and 100-day simple moving averages (SMAs), which are at $60.65 and $60.99, respectively. This area has been a strong selling zone since late September.

For a bullish reversal to take hold, buyers must push prices above the $55.00 psychological mark. Success here could open the door to the October 21 daily high of $58.18, followed by the SMA confluence. On the downside, sellers need to drive prices below $50.00 to target the November 3 swing low of $48.65 and the psychological $45.00 support.

Silver is a precious metal often used as a store of value and a hedge during high-inflation periods. Its price movements are influenced by factors such as geopolitical instability, interest rates, US Dollar strength, industrial demand, and mining supply. The metal is widely used in industries like electronics and solar energy, where its high electric conductivity is valued.
