Singapore and Canada Establish Economic Partnership Framework
Singapore and Canada have signed a joint declaration to establish an Economic Partnership Framework. The framework aims to deepen cooperation in emerging technologies, energy and food security, two-way investment and supply chain resilience.
The agreement was signed by Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand during Balakrishnan's visit to Ottawa from September 17 to 18. The framework will foster cooperation in emerging technologies through joint research, innovation, and commercialization activities.
The two countries also agreed to accelerate the energy transition through clean and conventional energy opportunities, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), cooperation on critical minerals, and promotion of diversified and resilient energy supply chains. They will promote two-way investment by advancing investment facilitation and modernisation, and deepen economic engagement.
The Economic Partnership Framework is part of a broader effort to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Singapore and Canada. The two countries are also exploring opportunities for collaboration in other emerging and critical technologies.
