Singapore is taking steps to safeguard its energy supply amid growing risks of resource nationalism. The country is diversifying its suppliers, expanding storage capacity, and building new infrastructure, according to Singapore’s Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry Tan See Leng. His remarks came as Indonesia began reducing natural gas exports to Singapore starting this past Saturday.
The cuts follow President Prabowo Subianto’s push to prioritize domestic gas supply in Indonesia. Singapore’s Energy Market Authority has assured that the country has enough reserves, noting that the reductions represent less than 2% of its total daily gas demand. Tan See Leng echoed this sentiment, stating there is no concern of shortages.
The move highlights Singapore’s proactive approach to mitigating potential disruptions in its energy supply chain. By diversifying sources and enhancing infrastructure, the city-state aims to ensure stability even as regional dynamics shift.
