Sloychuk's Lifelong Pursuit of Helping Others Ends in Tragic Loss
Jeffrey Alan Sloychuk was a 44-year-old man from Whitehorse who lived life to the fullest. He was born in Red Deer, Alberta on October 16, 1981 and moved often due to his father's work with an oil company.
Sloychuk grew up playing hockey and loved sports, but he also had a passion for learning and reading. Despite being a great student early on, he became bored in high school and eventually graduated from Kamloops before earning a political science degree at Red Deer College.
In Red Deer, Sloychuk joined the NDP party and ran in several elections, using his skills to help grow the party's membership and influence. In 2011, he was asked to help the NDP in Yukon and later became involved with the Carpenter's union in Whitehorse.
Sloychuk's dedication to helping others knew no bounds. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, he took action by delivering humanitarian aid and establishing contacts for future trips. He even helped form the Ukrainian Canadian Association of the Yukon (UCAY) and became its first president, leading it to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations.
