South Africa's Western Cape Province Faces Struggle in Vineyards and Wheat Farms

South Africa's Western Cape province is facing challenges in its vineyards and wheat farms. These sectors are not only dependent on harvests but also on tourism, outside capital, income diversification, and their ability to withstand adverse weather seasons.

Vineyards have found alternative ways to generate income through restaurants, cottages, weddings, tasting rooms, olive oil production, cycling routes, and owners who made their fortunes in other industries. This model allows farms to sell not only wine but also a tourist experience, scenery, and lifestyle.

Wheat farms, however, lack similar opportunities to earn money from visitors. To survive, they rely on larger production scales, diversification, and funds from other sources to help weather loss-making years.
