South Carolina drivers are experiencing another sudden jump in gas prices, despite typically slower demand following the summer driving season.

According to AAA, the average price for regular gas in South Carolina is $3.90 per gallon, which compares to a national average of $4.27 per gallon.

Diesel prices have also reached record highs, at $5.84 per gallon in South Carolina and $5.97 nationally.

Tiffany Wright, a spokesperson for AAA in South Carolina, noted that the recent increase is unusual for this time of year.

She explained that oil prices are currently at their highest level since July, accounting for 55% of what drivers pay at the pump.

The surge in gas prices has already led to higher costs being passed down to consumers through other goods and services.
