South Korea Invests $200B in US Energy Infrastructure
US President Donald Trump announced on September 28, 2026, that South Korea will invest approximately $200 billion in US energy infrastructure. This investment is part of a broader trade agreement reached last year between the two countries.
The $200 billion investment includes funding for the long-planned Alaska LNG project, which would move North Slope gas through an approximately 800-mile pipeline to a Southcentral Alaska liquefaction and export facility. The project developer, Glenfarne, estimates it could create about 12,000 construction jobs and up to 1,000 long-term operations jobs.
Trump stated that the project would deliver nearly 4 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas per day and save Alaska households as much as $2,220 annually on energy costs. The investment is also set to support eight large nuclear reactors and a 6-gigawatt power-generation facility in Texas.
South Korea committed to investing $350 billion for US projects, including $150 billion for shipbuilding and $200 billion in strategic investments, in exchange for a 15% tariff rate on South Korean goods.
