South Korea Invests $200B in US Energy Projects
US President Donald Trump announced on September 28, 2026, that South Korea will invest approximately $200 billion in US energy infrastructure as part of a broader trade agreement. The investment includes $54 billion for the Alaska LNG project, which would move North Slope gas through an 800-mile pipeline to a liquefaction and export facility.
The Alaska project is expected to create about 12,000 construction jobs and up to 1,000 long-term operations jobs, according to project developer Glenfarne. Trump called the project 'one of the largest energy projects in American history.'
South Korea committed $350 billion for US projects, including $150 billion for shipbuilding and $200 billion in strategic investments, in exchange for a 15% tariff rate on South Korean goods.
