South Korea Secures Over 90% of November Oil Needs

South Korea has managed to avoid a potential oil supply crisis in November by securing over 90% of its required crude oil and naphtha. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy reported that the country has already covered 100% of its October crude oil needs compared to last year's average and more than 90% for November. This marks a significant improvement from mid-September, when the government had only secured about 70% of November's crude oil supplies.

The supply situation for naphtha, a crucial raw material for petrochemicals, has also improved. The government has secured enough naphtha for October to meet domestic demand and is working to secure over 90% of November's demand. These developments ease concerns that South Korea's refiners and petrochemical producers might face shortages due to ongoing supply disruptions in the Middle East.

Concerns had risen after the war in the Middle East escalated in mid-September, leading to disruptions in crude oil exports from Saudi Arabia. Global anxiety grew further when reports indicated that U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve inventories had dropped to their lowest level since 1982. However, recent recovery in crude oil exports from the Middle East and the decision by the G7 countries to release oil from strategic reserves have raised hopes of stabilizing supply conditions.

International oil prices have seen a slight decline, with Brent crude falling 0.1% to $100.22 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate crude dropping 0.2% to $89.22 per barrel. Despite this, fuel prices in South Korea remain high, with gasoline prices rising slightly to 1,857.58 won per liter, while diesel prices fell marginally to 1,843.08 won per liter.
