Southern Energy Corp., a natural gas and light oil producer based in Calgary, announced that it has successfully drilled and cased its first Cotton Valley well at the Williamsburg Field in Mississippi.

The Terrible Creek 21-2 #2 well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 18,825 feet and encountered numerous prospective sands in the Sligo, Hosston, and Cotton Valley formations.

Southern's President and CEO, Ian Atkinson, said that the company is 'very pleased with the operational performance' of the well, which was drilled safely, on budget, and within 22 days, making it one of the fastest wells in the area to reach depths greater than 18,500 feet.

The company plans to begin completion and testing operations in the Cotton Valley formation and will share test results once available.
