Soybean Prices Plummet as US-China Meeting Falls Short

Soybean futures plummeted on Monday, September 28, 2026, as traders reacted to the lack of meaningful agricultural follow-through from last week's meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The November soybeans contract closed down 30¾¢ at $12.88¼ per bushel.

The Grain Market Insider newsletter by Stewart-Peterson Inc noted that corn futures faced selling pressure as details from the U.S.-China meeting weighed heavily on soybeans, spilling over into the broader grain markets. Wheat futures also closed sharply lower as tumbling soybean prices pressured the market and fresh supportive news was lacking.

Nobody associated with the source had any positive views about the situation. Naomi Blohm, senior market advisor with Total Farm Marketing called the news 'uninspiring'.
