Sri Lankan Short Eats Prices Skyrocket Amid Wheat Flour Price Hike

Prices of short eats and other eatery items in Sri Lanka have increased following a sharp rise in wheat flour costs. The All-Island Canteen Owners' Association said that several flour-based short eats now cost Rs. 5 more, including parata, egg roti, vegetable roti, rolls, and patties.

The price of a string hopper has gone up by Re. 1, while the price of a hopper has increased by Rs. 2. The All-Island Bakery Owners' Association is considering adjusting prices for bread and other bakery products due to the wheat flour price hike.

The increase in flour costs is attributed to rising global expenses, including higher shipping and maritime insurance fees and increased international grain prices amidst the ongoing Middle East conflict.
