Stable Euronext Wheat Prices Mask Ongoing Uncertainty Over Ukraine Conflict
The price of Euronext wheat remained relatively stable on Tuesday as traders assessed diplomatic efforts to reduce attacks in Russia's war with Ukraine. The December contract settled unchanged at €243.75 ($278.68) a metric ton after the main session.
A weaker euro against the dollar also contributed to this stability, reaching an almost two-month low. In contrast, Chicago wheat prices eased slightly.
The ongoing conflict has severely impacted Black Sea exports from Russia and Ukraine, which are major grain-producing countries. The UN General Assembly's discussion of a possible pause in attacks on energy infrastructure has tempered expectations of a recovery in shipping.
However, some analysts believe that the lack of a clear export program for the coming months is starting to disappoint traders with long positions. Egypt, one of the world's largest wheat importers, has been cautious in its buying approach, according to a futures broker.
