Strait of Hormuz Attack Raises Fears Over Global Oil Trade
An oil tanker was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, just off the east coast of Oman. The strike disabled the ship's engine, but fortunately, all crew members were reported safe.
The attack highlights the ongoing risks for shipping companies attempting to use the waterway while Iran maintains control over it. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial passage that accounts for about a fifth of the world's traded oil before the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28th.
Pakistan, which has been mediating between the US and Iran, wrapped up high-level talks in Tehran with the goal of bringing a negotiated end to the nearly six-month-old war. Pakistani officials described the talks as 'highly positive' and productive.
