Strait of Hormuz Tensions Send Oil Prices Soaring Globally
Global oil prices surged on Monday as tensions escalated in the Strait of Hormuz. The region is considered one of the world's most crucial energy transit routes, and instability there can quickly impact the global market.
The Brent crude price rose by 3.47% to $108.24 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbed 3.26% to trade at $103.32 a barrel.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for oil exports from the Persian Gulf region, and recent military clashes there have added to regional tensions.
The targeting of Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline also contributed to the price increase, which had a daily transfer capacity of about 5 million barrels of oil.
