Strait of Hormuz Traffic Dwindles as US-Iran Tensions Persist
Shipping data showed that just over a dozen vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz last weekend, down from 35 the week prior. The reduced traffic comes as tensions in the Gulf persist between the US and Iran.
The strait is a crucial waterway for global oil and liquefied natural gas trade, but it has seen a significant decline in visible traffic since the conflict escalated. Despite this, Middle Eastern producers continue to export oil on tankers with their transponders turned off.
According to provisional data from analytics firm Kpler, four vessels exited the strait on Sunday, including two tankers carrying refined oil products and two empty carriers for bulk goods and gas. Two small-sized oil tankers entered the Gulf during this period.
