Strait of Hormuz Vessel Traffic Falls Amid Ongoing Gulf Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz has seen a significant decline in vessel traffic over the past weekend, according to recent shipping data. While oil exports from Middle Eastern producers continue at normal levels, most vessels navigating the waterway have switched off their transponders.
Between September 18 and 19, only a dozen trackable commodity vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz, down from 35 during the previous weekend. Among these, four vessels exited the strait on Sunday: two tankers carrying refined oil products and two empty carriers for bulk goods and gas.
Two small oil tankers entered the Gulf on Sunday. On Saturday, five vessels carrying agricultural products, liquefied petroleum gas, and fertiliser left the Gulf, while an empty very large gas carrier entered.
