Supply Route Disruptions Drive Up Oil Prices, Says India's Oil Minister
India's Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently emphasized that global oil supply is not facing a shortage. Instead, disruptions to supply routes and high freight charges are driving up prices.
The current challenge in the global energy market is related to transportation rather than production levels. With 104 million barrels of oil available every day, but only consuming around 94 million barrels, Puri stated that there's no actual shortage in supply.
Puri pointed out that India has diversified its crude oil sources from 27 to 41 since 2022 to minimize the impact of disruptions. Despite global uncertainties, India has successfully navigated disruptions to crude oil and natural gas supplies amid the ongoing West Asia crisis and Strait of Hormuz incidents.
