Syria Gas Pipeline Fire Triggered by Sabotage
A fire broke out in Syria along a natural gas pipeline connecting the Al-Shola area to Deir ez-Zor, following an act of sabotage. The incident occurred after midnight on Tuesday, causing a complete disruption in gas supply pumped from the Jbeissa gas plant to local electricity generation stations.
Hisham Al-Saleh, head of the gas sector at the Syrian Petroleum Company, confirmed that emergency response teams deployed immediately to the site, isolating the pipeline section upstream and downstream from the fire to prevent further spread.
The area connecting Al-Shola and Deir ez-Zor is a critical energy corridor housing key facilities and pipelines associated with the transportation and production of natural gas. Firefighting units are working to extinguish the fire as gas pressure inside the isolated pipeline segment continues to decrease.
