Talegaon Gas Capacity Boosted Ninefold as MNGL Upgrades Infrastructure
Gas handling capacity at Talegaon in Maharashtra has been increased from 75,000 standard cubic meters per day (SCMD) to a whopping 700,000 SCMD. This significant upgrade was undertaken by Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) in association with GAIL as part of an augmentation programme to strengthen Pune's compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) supply network.
The upgraded skid at the receiving terminal station in Talegaon was commissioned on September 11, marking a major milestone in the programme. The upgrade is expected to improve pressure availability by up to around 1.5 bar in the farther reaches of the Pune city gas distribution network and ensure uninterrupted supply to CNG stations.
The augmentation programme also includes pipeline looping at Talegaon, which was completed in the second week of August. This will enable efficient supply of gas from RT Talegaon towards RT Pune (Chikhali). The upgrades provide around 300,000 SCMD of additional throughput capacity for the Pune gas network.
The third phase of the programme is currently underway, with GAIL upgrading the existing 4-inch pipeline at Talegaon to an 8-inch pipeline through hot-tapping. According to MNGL, the phased network strengthening programme will make the natural gas distribution system in Pune more reliable and capable of meeting future demand.
