Tanker Attacks Spark Fears Over Strait of Hormuz Security

Two oil tankers were attacked while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. The Saudi Arabian-flagged very large crude carrier Sidr and the Liberian-flagged VLCC Senegal Prosperity were both hit by unknown projectiles. The attacks occurred within minutes of each other, with the Sidr being struck approximately 16.6 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman at around 1952 UTC.

The Senegal Prosperity was hit by three unknown projectiles approximately 17 nautical miles east of Khasab. All crew members aboard both vessels were reported safe. The attacks have raised concerns about the security of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, which carries a significant portion of global oil supplies.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that three projectiles struck a tanker in the same location as it sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz. This incident comes after recent tensions between Iran and the US over control of the waterway. Oil prices rose on Tuesday following President Donald Trump's threat of additional strikes against Iran.
