Tankers Attacked in Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Tensions
Two oil and liquefied natural gas tankers were struck by unknown projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
A verified source reported that a crude oil tanker was hit on its port side by an unknown projectile, while another report stated that a liquefied natural gas tanker was also struck in the same area.
The UKMTO classified the incident as an attack and urged vessels to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes amid tensions between Iran and the US over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy and commodity supplies.
