TAPI Pipeline to Supply Gas to Pakistan by 2027
Turkmenistan plans to supply natural gas to Pakistan through the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline by 2027, according to its ambassador in Pakistan. Atajan Movlamov made the statement at the Ambassadors' Dinner 2026 in Islamabad.
The TAPI pipeline is a strategically important project that will stretch about 1,800 kilometers from Turkmenistan's Galkynysh gas field through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. The designed capacity of the pipeline is up to 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section of the pipeline in Afghanistan began in September 2024, and Turkmenistan completed its section in 2024. The project aims to supply natural gas to Pakistan and India, as well as provide a reliable energy source for Afghanistan's industrial development.
