Tech Sector Leads US Stock Market Rally Amid Oil Price Relief
The US stock market experienced a significant rally on Thursday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes posting their biggest gains since August 4. The S&P 500 rose by 1.1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Russell 2000 gained 0.6% and 0.55%, respectively.
The rally was led by the tech sector, which surged by 2.2%. Consumer Discretionary was the second-best performing sector, with a gain of over 1%. The tech sector's strong performance was largely due to the success of AI-native companies, including Nvidia Corp., whose CEO Jensen Huang expects to sell twice as many chips in the coming year.
Other notable gainers included Generac Holdings Inc. and Lennar, both of which rose by over 18% and 1.7%, respectively. In contrast, CoreWeave Inc. was a laggard, falling by 4.2% after kicking off a fresh round of fundraising.
Market analysts attributed the rally to a combination of factors, including relief from the recent decline in oil prices and the Fed's decision to hike interest rates. However, some experts warned that the market may still face volatility due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and potential inflationary pressures.
