Tehran, Baku Deepen Energy Ties Amid Regional Cooperation Push
Iran and Azerbaijan have strengthened their energy cooperation ties after recent talks between top officials. In a meeting on September 29, Iran's Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad discussed expanding collaboration with Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. The two countries have a long history of energy relations and are now exploring ways to deepen their partnership.
Paknejad stated that the talks focused mainly on energy cooperation and highlighted Azerbaijan's considerable capacities in this area. He noted that the two sides had 'detailed discussions and exchanges' on energy trade and other areas of cooperation, with agreements reached to pursue these issues through joint working groups.
The latest meeting followed previous meetings in Tehran in 2024 and 2025, which aimed to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation between the two countries. Iran and Azerbaijan's shared position on the Caspian Sea and their proximity to regional energy markets provide grounds for expanding bilateral and multilateral energy cooperation.
