Tennessee's gas prices have seen a significant increase over the past week, rising by 13 cents on average. This brings the state's average price to $3.80 per gallon, a record high for Labor Day.

The national average has also reached a new high, with drivers paying an average of $4.15 per gallon. This surpasses the previous holiday record of $3.82 per gallon set in 2012.

According to Megan Cooper, a spokeswoman for AAA - The Auto Club Group, 'Tennessee drivers paid the highest Labor Day gas prices on record this year, largely due to elevated crude oil prices and strong holiday travel demand.'

The continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz has pushed crude oil prices up to around $90 per barrel. This has kept gasoline prices higher than usual, despite a decrease in gasoline demand from 9.04 million barrels per day to 8.92 million.
