Texas Commissioner Demands Suspension of Gas Tax Amid Soaring Prices
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is calling for Governor Greg Abbott to temporarily suspend the state's 20-cent-per-gallon gasoline and undyed diesel tax as gas prices remain above $3. The average U.S. oil price has not dipped past $3 since March, according to Gas Buddy.
El Pasoans are paying one of the highest gas prices in Texas, with an average of $4.40-$4.50 per gallon, according to KTSM's Gas Tracker. This is 20 cents more than what Houston drivers were paying as of September 10th.
Miller urged Abbott and other state lawmakers to take action and provide relief to Texans while fuel prices continue to rise. 'We don't control the price of oil, but we control the taxes we put on it,' Miller said. 'Governor Abbott has the tools to act.'
