Texas Gas Prices Hold Steady as Back-to-School Season Approaches
As Texas families prepare for back-to-school season, they're facing not only a lengthy shopping list and adjusting schedules but also rising gas prices. The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in the state is $3.63 per gallon, according to AAA Texas. This represents a one-cent decrease from last week's prices, but there hasn't been any significant drop-off.
El Paso remains the city with the highest gas prices at $3.85 per gallon, while McAllen has the lowest at $3.29 per gallon. The national average saw a 4-cent decline to $4.06 per gallon this week. In comparison to last year's prices, drivers in Texas are paying nearly 87 cents more for gasoline.
The city of Odessa experienced the largest drop in gas prices among Texas cities, with a decrease of 24 cents per gallon. Other notable declines were seen in Amarillo, Lubbock, and Abilene. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that average gasoline prices varied across the country last week.
Oil market volatility is expected to continue influencing gas price fluctuations, with potential drivers including Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure. The cost of Brent Crude oil and WTI Crude was down $7.03 and $6.40 respectively from last week's figures.
